On October 18, Apple quietly unveiled the new iPad with the A14 Bionic processor and iPad Pro on the M2 chip, as well as two whole versions of Apple TV 4K. There was no large-scale presentation of the devices: the information about them just appeared on the company’s website.

Let’s find out what makes these new devices interesting.

iPad Pro: The M2 chip and the most advanced mobile display

Last generation iPad Pro was on the M1 chip, which still rips most of the competition to shreds today. But the 2022 model has an even more advanced M2 chip. This means that:

  • the CPU is 15% faster;
  • the graphics are 35% faster;
  • memory bandwidth increased by 50% to 100GB/s;
  • The Neural Engine now handles 40% more requests.

Most users are unlikely to notice this performance boost. This is because M1 was already overpowering: you had to work hard to load the system properly. With M2, the user will believe in a miracle.

Multitasking is even smoother now. Tabs open in Safari in 1-2 seconds, any program loads instantly. Games with cool graphics fly at their peak. It’s the perfect handheld for those who work with massive amounts of data: photographers, video editors, designers who manage complex 3D objects, and all other content creators.

Another innovation is the ability to capture video in ProRes format directly on the tablet’s camera. The new media engine and signal processor allow ProRes footage to be transcoded up to 3 times faster. This means it’s possible to create, edit, and share cinema-quality video in the field. All it takes is one iPad Pro 2022!

The display remains the same. The 12.9-inch version features Liquid Retina XDR with up to 1,600 nits of brightness. The 11-inch model features the Liquid Retina with a maximum brightness of 600 nits.  Both models support True Tone and ProMotion.

Apple has tangibly improved the tablet’s interaction with the stylus. The Apple Pencil (2nd generation) now supports Hover. Hover allows users to make annotations and sketches more easily, since the tablet can recognize the stylus at a distance of 12 mm. For example, you can see your mark before you make it. And in Scribble, text boxes automatically expand when the pencil comes close to the screen.

Other features include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, five studio-quality microphones and four Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers. There’s also a LiDAR scanner and support for Smart HDR 4 for the most realistic photos.

That’s why the new iPad Pro is one of the most advanced and productive in the world. It’s available with 8 CPU cores, 10 GPU cores and 16 Neural Engine cores.

The 10th generation iPad: full-screen design, a bumped up camera and a vibrant palette

The look of Apple’s new tablet in its basic configuration has brought it closer to the iPad Air released a little earlier. The design in four vibrant colors is definitely memorable, but not just for its lush palette. The silver, yellow, pink and blue aluminum 10th generation iPad gets a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display that extends almost all the way to the edges, thereby increasing the working area for apps, games and more.

Talking about the display, we should also mention a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels, almost 4 million pixels, 500 nits brightness and True Tone technology for automatic temperature correction depending on the ambient light. All of this promises users a great visual experience on the new iPad.

Incidentally, Touch ID has been moved to the top button on the iPad. This makes it easier to unlock the device, log in to apps and use Apple Pay.

The iPad uses the powerful and familiar A14 Bionic processor found in iPhone 12. This gives a 20% increase in CPU performance and a 10% increase in graphics performance (compared to the previous generation tablet). So you can do just about anything you want for everyday tasks like designing a presentation, editing video or photos, reading or even playing graphics-intensive games. And everything runs smoothly and quickly.

Apple has significantly upgraded the camera on the redesigned 10th generation iPad. For the first time, the 12-megapixel front camera is now positioned along the edge of the body when the device is held horizontally. The ultra-wide-angle camera supports Center Stage, which automatically scales the scene so that all participants remain in the frame.

The 12-megapixel rear camera gets the ability to take high-resolution photos and record 4K video at up to 60fps. And there’s extended dynamic range at 30 fps recording and 1080p slow-motion recording. By the way, thanks to dual microphones the sound during video recording will be excellent and background noise will be kept to a minimum.

Also worth noting is that the iPad gets stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6 support and the long-awaited USB-C connector like the older models. With the latest update, the new iPad 2022 will be able to support a wide range of work accessories such as the Magic Keyboard Folio.

Apple TV 4K: more powerful and affordable

In addition to the new tablets, Apple has also unveiled the Apple TV 4K set-top box. The device gets a powerful A15 Bionic processor – the same found in the iPhone 13 and the base iPhone 14. The chip delivers even better performance and a smoother gaming experience, with the CPU being 50% faster than the previous generation set-top box.

The Apple TV 2022 is available in two configurations at once. The younger version gets 64GB of memory and Wi-Fi support. The older one has 128GB of memory, as well as Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectors. By the way, the second version also supports the Thread Mesh protocol for the smart home.

The A15 Bionic chip has provided the new Apple TV 4K with HDR10+ technology. It treats every frame of video with its own preset of color, brightness, and contrast settings. This improves the picture, making it amazingly detailed, rich and realistic. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital 7.1/5.1 surround and immersive sound technologies you know well are also present.

Visually, the console has not changed: it’s still the same stylish matt black plastic case with glossy edges and the apple logo.

The Siri Remote, on the other hand, has been redesigned to allow you to charge it via USB-C. The touchpad makes navigation through the Apple TV user interface quick and easy. Get access to a huge collection of award-winning movies, shows and talk shows. Watching them in your own home cinema in high definition is a real pleasure.
