Apple devices help children stay connected while giving parents useful safety features. You can easily set up parental controls on an iPhone, manage Screen Time, restrict in-app purchases, block inappropriate content, and receive notifications about your child’s location — all of these options are built into Apple devices. Before the new school year, you can choose suitable devices at iSpace, an Apple Premium Reseller in Armenia.

Why Is iPhone Convenient for Both Parents and Children?

A child does not necessarily need the most powerful iPhone: even entry-level models are suitable for calls, communication, studying, and everyday tasks. So when choosing a model, you can focus on your budget. Children value Apple smartphones for their performance and status, while parents appreciate the built-in safety features. On iPhone, you can:

  1. Limit Screen Time and individual apps. Set limits for social media and games, and restrict access to the smartphone during study time or after 10 p.m.
  2. Prevent accidental App Store purchases. Your child will need to send a request to a parent’s device before buying something in a game.
  3. Protect your child from inappropriate content. The system can restrict explicit content and access to 18+ websites.
  4. Receive updates about your child’s location. The Find My app shows the child’s device location on a map in real time, so you can see when your child has arrived at school or reached an after-school activity.
  5. Help protect hearing and eyesight. You can monitor headphone volume and enable Screen Distance, which reminds the child to move the iPhone farther away when it is held too close.
  6. Apple devices can easily be connected through Family Sharing, which supports up to six accounts. When setting up an iPhone account for a child, the parent creates a child account and adds it to the family group. A detailed guide is available here.

Parental Controls: How to Set Up Screen Time and Restrictions on Your Child’s iPhone

You can set phone-use rules in advance and adjust them as your child gets older or during school holidays. For example, you can add content restrictions on iPhone and set Screen Time limits. Here is how to do it:

  1. Open “Settings,” tap your name to access your Apple Account, select “Family,” and create a child account.
  2. Open “Screen Time” in Settings and, under “Downtime,” set a schedule for when the phone and specific apps can be used.
  3. Link a separate Focus mode to your child’s daily routine. The iPhone can then limit app use in the evening when it is time to rest and sleep.
  4. Create a study mode based on the school schedule. Enter lesson times and add the school location so that when your child arrives there, only calls and study apps remain available.
  5. Keep access to essential apps under “Always Allowed,” such as Phone and the messaging app used for the family chat.

After setting everything up, review the Screen Time statistics in Settings a few days later. Discuss the final schedule with your child and adjust the parental control options if needed.

How to Block Inappropriate Content and App Store Purchases

Set up content restrictions on your child’s iPhone. To do this, go to “Settings” → “Screen Time” → “Family” → “Content & Privacy Restrictions.” Under “Content & Privacy Restrictions”:

  • block access to 18+ websites;
  • hide content with an inappropriate age rating;
  • select the option that restricts explicit language.

You can separately block in-app purchases, as well as app installation and deletion, under “iTunes & App Store Purchases.” To approve or decline these actions, add your child’s iPhone account to Family Sharing. Your child will then be able to use Ask to Buy, and purchase requests will be sent to your iPhone for approval.

How to Receive Notifications About Your Child’s Location

With the Find My app, you can track when your child arrives at school and returns home, with automatic location notifications sent to the parent’s iPhone. For this to work, your child’s Apple Account must be part of the family group, and Location Services must be enabled on the child’s device. Here is how to set it up:

  1. In the Find My app, select your child’s profile.
  2. Tap “Notifications,” then “Add,” and select “Notify Me.”
  3. Choose the condition that should trigger a notification, such as arriving at school.
  4. Select the location you need and adjust the area radius on the map.

After setup, make sure notifications for the Find My app are enabled on your iPhone. You can check this in the system settings under “Notifications.”

How Can Apple Watch Give Parents Greater Peace of Mind?

For additional communication and safety, you can get your child an Apple Watch. The smartwatch can track location, set reminders, and display notifications. A child can also contact emergency services by pressing and holding the side button to activate Emergency SOS.

How to Protect Your Child’s Hearing When Using AirPods

If your child often listens to music through headphones for long periods at high volume, it is worth setting a volume limit. In the iPhone settings, go to “Sounds & Haptics” → “Headphone Safety” → “Reduce Loud Audio” and set the maximum allowed volume level.

Enable loud headphone notifications as well. The device will analyze your child’s headphone audio exposure over a seven-day period, warn about potentially harmful levels, and automatically reduce the volume when necessary.

How to Choose the Right Apple Device for Your Child’s Studies

Choosing an Apple device depends less on the pupil’s age than on the tasks they handle every day. A versatile option is iPhone. With it, your child can:

  • make calls and send messages;
  • take photos or shoot videos for TikTok;
  • use educational services and study apps;
  • save files to iCloud and access them on other Apple devices, such as a Mac at home.

Another strong advantage of iPhone is its advanced parental control features. You can adjust the settings to match your family’s rules.

An iPad with a larger screen may be more comfortable for extended reading. It is also well suited for creating presentations, drawing, and taking notes.

As pupils move into higher grades, their workload increases, and a MacBook can become their main study device. It makes it easier to prepare for classes, work on graphic design and programming, create presentations, and handle larger projects.

AirPods are convenient for online classes. With Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a child can reduce distracting background noise and focus better on the lesson. AirPods also have built-in microphones, making them convenient for calls and conversations.

Apple Watch can complement the rest of the device setup. It provides location information and notifications, helps your child stay connected, and supports better focus with Schooltime mode.

For a primary-school pupil, we recommend starting with an iPhone and adding other devices over time as specific needs arise. Remember to use the same child account across the Apple devices so the relevant settings stay synchronized.
