Apple’s fall presentation is an event that many people anticipate more than New Year’s. On this day, the company disrupts the market with innovations, setting trends in the industry’s development. This year is no exception. At the September event called “Wonderlust,” Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra, and the main star of the event was the iPhone 15. Let’s dive into the details about these devices.

What do all the smartphones in the lineup have in common?

Starting from 2023, Apple is transitioning from the Lightning port to USB-C. You will no longer need to carry multiple different cables with you: now you can charge your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook with a single charger. And not only them: the new AirPods Pro 2, which Apple announced today, also come with a USB-C connector.

Dynamic Island is not limited to just the Pro versions this year, as was the case last year; it’s available across the entire lineup. Just to remind you, “Dynamic Island” isn’t just an oval cutout for the front camera. It’s a full-fledged interface element that can change shape, size, and display notifications and widgets.

One exciting feature is the second-generation U2 ultra-wideband chip, which is used in the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. It enables the ability to locate other iPhones or AirTag trackers nearby. With the Precision Finding feature, you can locate friends or family members in a crowd, as their direction will be indicated by an arrow on the phone’s screen. However, it’s worth noting that U2 support may not be available in all regions where the iPhone is sold.

iPhone 15 and 15 Plus: Key Features

The base models have received an updated design with rounded edges and matte “backs,” as well as an improved 48-megapixel wide-angle camera. There’s now a 2x lossless zoom (achieved through cropping). Apple has also enhanced the artificial intelligence algorithms and the portrait mode. The camera will now recognize when you’re taking a portrait (even of pets!) and automatically switch to portrait mode. Thanks to Smart HDR, nighttime photos will look much better.

Other features of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus

Processor: Apple A16 Bionic – the same as in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. It features 2 high-performance cores and 4 energy-efficient cores.

Camera: Primary camera with a 48-megapixel resolution and an f/1.6 aperture. There’s also a secondary ultra-wide-angle camera with optical stabilization.

Screen size: 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The refresh rate is 60 Hz.

Color options: black, blue, green, yellow, and pink.

Display: Super Retina on OLED panels with a brightness of up to 2000 nits. This is twice as bright as the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 15 Pro и 15 Pro Max: features

Let’s start with the design. The Pro versions of the iPhone have received a thin titanium frame instead of stainless steel. Titanium is used in NASA’s Mars rovers. It’s durable, lightweight, and looks truly premium. The edges of the new model have become more rounded, and the bezels around the display have noticeably decreased. The mute switch toggle has also changed. It’s no longer a “switch” but a universal Action Button (similar to the Apple Watch Ultra), which can be customized for various functions, including commands.

Now, let’s talk about the chip. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are equipped with the A17 Pro – the most powerful processor for mobile devices. It’s manufactured using a 3-nanometer process, features 19 billion transistors, and has 6 cores. Apple claims that the new chip is faster and more energy-efficient than last year’s A16 Bionic. It will especially appeal to gamers as it boosts gaming performance by approximately 20%! Interestingly, the chip supports ray tracing. In early 2024, several AAA games will be released that can fully leverage the capabilities of the new processor. These include Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Village.

The A17 Pro also includes chips for video encoding and data transmission management via Type-C. By the way, the data transfer speed via the new connector in the Pro versions will be up to 10 gigabits per second.

The technical specifications of the camera are impressive. The Pro models feature an improved 48-megapixel wide-angle camera with a larger sensor. The equivalent focal length can be set to 24mm, 28mm, or 35mm. Interaction with LiDAR has also been improved, so your night photos will be much better. By the way, there is now a dedicated portrait mode for night mode photography.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max can capture 3D video (Spatial Video). However, to view it, you’ll need the Vision Pro headset, which Apple has not yet unveiled.

In the iPhone 15 Pro Max (but not in the iPhone 15 Pro), a photosensor has been added for 5x optical zoom without loss of detail. This is comparable to a 120mm lens!

Other specifications for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max
