Did you know that every fifth person in the world who has a phone uses an iPhone? That’s nearly one and a half billion people on the planet. But today, we won’t talk about why the brand is so cool and popular; we won’t try to persuade anyone to join the Apple club. Instead, let’s discuss the feasibility of switching from Android to iPhone, compare the strengths and weaknesses of both systems. And let’s evaluate two excellent models for debut: the iPhone 14 Plus and the iPhone 15 Plus. Then you can decide for yourself whether it’s worth buying an iPhone after Android. Let’s go!

Differences between iPhone and Android

First, what do they have in common? Both are smartphones. Only Apple produces the iPhone and equips it with the unique iOS operating system, which has closed source code. No one except the creators can interfere with the software.

Android, on the other hand, is a widely used operating system. It is used by many manufacturers: Google, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and others. The OS has open-source code, meaning developers can modify and customize it.

All new iPhone models have practically the same interface and set of basic functions. If you switch from one model to another, you won’t need much time to adapt—the picture remains the same. But if you decide to buy Xiaomi after Samsung, for example, you’ll have to relearn things. Even though the platform is the same, the visual aspects and settings vary significantly.

iPhone or Android: Main Pros and Cons

In the battles of why iPhone is better than Android (and vice versa), coming to a unanimous decision has never been possible. And it seems it never will be. Both systems have many fans, and each side has its arguments. It’s an eternal debate, like that between cat lovers and dog lovers, coffee enthusiasts and tea drinkers — well, you get the idea.

So, what’s better: iPhone or Android? It’s all subjective. The choice depends on your habits, preferences, interests, security requirements, and, of course, budget.

Let’s have a little “battle” of iPhone vs Android and compare smartphones on key points.

Security: iOS is better protected against cyber-attacks since it’s maintained solely by Apple — no one else can interfere with its closed-source code.

Updates: Apple supports its devices for 6 years after release, providing free iOS updates during this time. This applies to all models, from the budget SE to the flagship Pro Max. So, you might even have time to buy a new device during this period! Android smartphone manufacturers don’t spoil their users like this. They send OS updates and security patches for about 3–4 years or less (it depends on the brand and product class).

Ecosystem: iPhone is part of the Apple ecosystem. If you already have or plan to buy a Mac or iPad, they easily and harmoniously synchronize with your phone. You can start working on one device and continue on another, transfer data through a shared clipboard — and that’s just a part of the incredible possibilities. Just log in with one Apple ID, and your devices will be united in a single network. No other manufacturers offer such a convenient ecosystem. If someone asks you why iPhone is better than Android, this argument will be one of the first.

Resale Value: iPhones have a high residual value, so even after several years, you can resell the device profitably. After all, high build quality and materials, regular OS updates, a fast chip with ample performance, and an advanced camera do their job.

Identification System: Face ID is one of Apple’s main trump cards. Unlocking the iPhone, entering apps, confirming payment in Apple Pay — all of this can be done quickly and securely thanks to this technology. Smart sensors recognize your face in any lighting conditions (even in the dark, thanks to the infrared camera), even if you wear glasses or a wig. They can’t be fooled by a photo or video with your face. Other brands’ smartphones don’t have such reliable authentication systems.

Let’s sum up the battle of iPhone vs Android. It seems that Apple wins on the main criteria. But we haven’t mentioned such advantages of the Android system as a wide choice of apps and rich interface customization options. And besides smartphones, there are many other devices on this popular platform: from navigators to TVs. The functionality and security of devices based on Android depend on the manufacturer, class, and year of release. The OS improves from year to year, so choosing between iPhone and Android in 2024 isn’t such a simple question. Let’s leave it open and discuss which iPhone models to choose for those taking their first steps into the Apple world.

iPhone 14 Plus or 15 Plus: Comparing and Choosing

So, you’re transitioning from Android to iPhone. Which model should you start with? Maybe go straight for the flagship iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max — why bother with anything less? A great camera, a titanium body, plenty of features… But think, do you really need them? If you’re buying your first iPhone, you can start with a simpler model. The iPhone 14 Plus or iPhone 15 Plus would be just right. How are they similar and how do they differ?

Similarities

Relevance: Both models were released relatively recently, the 14th in 2022, and the 15th in 2023. And they will remain relevant for several more years. During this time, you’ll receive updates and patches, enjoy the amazing capabilities of iOS and the device itself. And although the iPhone 14 Plus was released before the 15th model, it’s still in production.

6.7-inch display: Plus, an OLED panel (with a 60Hz refresh rate), True Tone color adaptation feature, HDR technology, Dolby Vision. What’s all this for? To enjoy videos, games, social media, news reading, video calls, and so on.

26 hours of video playback autonomy. And 100 hours of audio playback without recharging. For such a large screen, this is an impressive result.

IP68 dust and water resistance standard. The devices can theoretically be submerged to a depth of 6 meters for half an hour (but we don’t recommend doing so). But the device definitely won’t die if it gets wet or if you drop it in a snowbank.

Internal storage capacity: 128, 256, and 512 GB.

And finally, both models have Face ID.

Differences

Color options:

The iPhone 14 Plus is available in six vibrant colors: blue, yellow, red, purple, white, and elegant black.

The iPhone 15 Plus is slightly more restrained in terms of the number and brightness of shades. The manufacturer offers five delicate pastel tones: pink, blue, yellow, green, and, of course, black.

Dynamic Island

In the iPhone 15 series, it is located at the top of the screen, just like in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. But in the iPhone 14 Plus, instead of it, there is a “notch” (cutout for the front camera).

The “Dynamic Island” is not just a trendy feature, but a convenient interface gimmick. It displays background activities and notifications.

Type-C Port

The iPhone 15 models are charged via the universal USB Type-C port. This means you can charge the smartphone with any cable of this format, even with chargers for Android devices. But the 14 Plus has a rarer type of connector — Lightning.

Additionally, the iPhone 15 can charge other devices via a Lightning cable, effectively functioning as a power bank. However, it does this relatively slowly, with a power output of just 4.5 watts.

Performance

The iPhone 14 Plus operates on the A15 Bionic chip with a frequency of 3230 MHz. It features a 6-core central processor (CPU), a 5-core graphics processor (GPU), and a 16-core Neural Engine coprocessor. The LPDDR4X RAM capacity is 6 GB.

The iPhone 15 Plus boasts a faster chip (A16 Bionic) — by 20%. The number of cores remains the same, as does the RAM capacity (LPDDR5 standard), but its speed has increased.

Both chips offer high performance, with enough power to last another 5 years. This allows for enjoying games with complex graphics and high-quality videos, as well as using demanding applications. Despite their excellent speed and smooth operation, the smartphones consume a moderate amount of energy.

Screen Brightness

The screen specifications are identical except for brightness. The iPhone 14 Plus has a brightness of 800 nits (peak brightness up to 1200 nits). In the 15 Plus, it’s twice as much, at 1600/2000 nits. This makes using the smartphone comfortable both on a sunny day outdoors and indoors.

Cameras

One of the most important criteria for evaluating any smartphone. Of course, devices in the same price range should be compared. By the way, we didn’t mention this above. Here, the iPhone outperforms Android by a long shot. Its camera is better than that of many Android flagships.

The iPhone 14 Plus is equipped with two main cameras and one front-facing camera with autofocus, each with a resolution of 12 MP. The 2x optical zoom brings objects closer without loss of quality. The main camera has an aperture of f/1.5, pixel size of 1.9 µm. The ultra-wide camera with an aperture of f/2.4* allows you to capture a 120° field of view. The front camera has a lower resolution, but its sensor is better than that of expensive Android smartphones. The phone takes good photos even in low light conditions.

Video capabilities are also excellent. Stabilization allows for high-quality videos on the go without blurring. In cinematic mode, you can shoot with high detail (4K) at 30 and 24 frames per second. With such a device, you’ll definitely become a TikTok star! If you want to, of course.

One of the two main cameras on the iPhone 15 Plus has been upgraded to 48 MP. This will allow you to work with content in specialized video editors. However, the usual resolution used is lower — 12 MP — to save space. The aperture of the main sensor is ƒ/1.6.

What else can this smartphone do? Enhance photos taken in motion and in challenging lighting conditions (Photonic Engine and Deep Fusion algorithms, Smart HDR 5 function). It also features optical stabilization and 2x digital zoom. With such a camera, it’s not embarrassing to run a YouTube channel: it shoots 4K HDR video at 60 frames per second. And that’s not all! The camera automatically switches from normal shooting mode to portrait mode — no need to mess with settings.

Conclusion

We are all different, and so are our preferences. Some people prefer a glamorous device with sparkles and a trendy logo, and they may not care much about the internal specifications. Others choose a phone based on its camera capabilities. And for many, staying within budget is important. If what matters most to you is the slow obsolescence of the device and the other advantages we described, then the iPhone is the perfect choice.

We recommend starting with the base model: either the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 15 Plus. Here’s why. A powerful processor, a large screen, an excellent camera — everything you need for happiness. You’ll be able to listen to music, watch movies, chat on messengers, scroll through social media, surf the internet, take photos and videos, play games, and so on. If a large screen isn’t necessary for you, consider the more compact iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models.

In general, whether to choose iPhone or Android is up to you. And if the choice is made in favor of Apple devices, come to iSpace store. We have all the latest, basic, and flagship models. You can hold them in your hands, compare them, and figure out which one is right for you.
