Apple has introduced a new model of all-in-one desktops. The ultra-thin iMac is powered by the M4 chip and supports the Apple Intelligence neural network. According to Apple’s senior vice president, John Ternus, this model will usher in a “new era” for computers. Let’s explore what improvements have earned this new iMac such recognition.
Faster with the M4 Chip — Up to 6x Speedier
The iMac with the M4 chip performs standard tasks 1.7 times faster than the previous model with the M1 chip.
Web browsing in Safari on the new model is 1.5 times faster, but that’s just the beginning. For resource-intensive processes, the iMac with the M4 chip is 2.1 times faster. This means the system will handle even the most demanding software with ease, such as heavy computer games, photo editing, and high-quality video processing apps.
With its Neural Engine cores, the M4 chip is 3 times faster than the M1 version. It’s also equipped with 16GB of RAM(expandable to 32GB), which further enhances the iMac’s performance, even under heavy loads.

New Capabilities with Apple Intelligence Neural Network
Apple Intelligence is powered by a neural engine specifically enhanced for this purpose. According to the developers, the neural network will be available for use starting in December.
Apple Intelligence will be capable of handling a wide range of tasks, including:
- Writing and proofreading texts.
- Creating and editing illustrations and video content.
- Sorting through your email and responding to messages.
- Searching for photos in your gallery by request and editing them, such as removing the background.
- Generating emojis (Genmoji) and images for apps like Messages and Notes (Image Playground).
With Siri enhanced by the neural network, the assistant will be able to understand requests more accurately and deliver results tailored to the user. For example, you can ask Siri to find a specific address or meeting time in your personal messages, and it will instantly provide the information.
To take advantage of these fantastic features, all you need to do is update your operating system to macOS Sequoia 15.1.
In December, ChatGPT will be integrated into Siri and Writing Tools. It will be available to users for free, and you won’t even need to create an account. Your personal data will remain protected — IP addresses are not disclosed, and OpenAI queries are not stored. Files processed by the neural network are handled directly on your computer, while more complex tasks are processed through the secure Private Cloud Compute system.
Initially, Apple Intelligence will only be available in American English, but more languages will be added over time.
Stylish and Useful Features of the 2024 iMac
The new iMac lineup, powered by the M4 chip, will be available in both the classic silver finish and six vibrant colors. The stylish all-in-one will be offered in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and blue shades, ensuring it will make a bold statement in any interior.
The rear panel has been made more vibrant, while the front panel is more subdued to help users stay focused on their work.
The 24-inch Retina display features an anti-glare nanotexture glass. The special coating disperses reflections, so you don’t have to sacrifice natural lighting while working at your computer. Even if the sun shines directly onto the screen, your eyes will still remain comfortable.
Apple has also considered the needs of those working remotely or frequently engaging in video calls. The new iMac comes with a 12-megapixel camera featuring Center Stage. During calls, you will always be perfectly centered in the frame. Another camera feature, Desk View, uses a wide-angle lens to capture your desk from above. This will come in handy if you need to present printed documents to your colleagues.
For sound quality, the iMac is equipped with three microphones featuring Beamforming technology, which directs the sound precisely from the source. It also has six speakers to ensure an exceptional audio experience whether you’re watching a movie or hosting a party.
The M4 iMac supports Wi-Fi 6E, enabling super-fast downloads of large files and ensuring a stable, uninterrupted connection.
For connecting other devices, there are four USB-C ports at the back of the device, which support Thunderbolt 4. These allow for fast data transfer, connecting external hard drives, 6K displays, and much more. Bluetooth 5.3 ensures wireless connectivity with improved algorithms for security and stability.
