AirPods Pro is the perfect companion in any situation: great sound, comfortable fit, and excellent noise cancellation. The headphones hold a charge for a long time and are not afraid of moisture, making them suitable for sports activities. However, it is still not recommended to wash them under the tap or use them in the pool. Let’s explain why.

The first and second generations of AirPods Pro are water-resistant but not waterproof. Both models have an IPX4 protection rating, which means they are resistant to sweat, rain, or water splashes from any direction. This is sufficient for everyday use.

However, it is likely that the headphones will be damaged if you wash them in a washing machine or drop them in the sea. Water entering the device can cause contact short-circuiting, compromise the insulation, and disrupt the normal operation of the diaphragm. Not to mention other liquids such as seawater or chlorinated water, alcohol, coffee, and others.

Can you use AirPods Pro in the rain?

It depends on the intensity of the rain. In light to moderate rain, it is generally safe to use them. However, if it is pouring and you are without an umbrella, there is a risk of submerging the headphones. It is equivalent to exposing them to a stream of water from a tap. Therefore, it’s best to store your AirPods in a dry pocket until the heavy rain subsides.

Can you shower or bathe with AirPods Pro?

Apple headphones are resistant to splashes but not immersion. Therefore, it is not recommended to shower or bathe with them. Also, try to avoid getting shampoo, soap, lotion, perfume, repellents, sunscreen, or hair dye on your AirPods. They can damage the water-resistant seals and acoustic membranes.

If something other than clean water gets on the headphones, first wipe it off with a damp cloth and then dry them.

Can you swim with AirPods Pro 1 and 2?

Water-resistant does not mean waterproof. Therefore, you should not submerge the headphones in water.

Can you work out with AirPods Pro?

Yes, you can run, do yoga, or work out at the gym with AirPods Pro. The headphones are resistant to sweat. However, no AirPods are suitable for water-based activities like aqua aerobics, swimming, or other water-related exercises.

What to do if your AirPods get wet?

If you accidentally get one or both of your AirPods wet, do not put them in the case. Instead, gently wipe them with a microfiber cloth and leave them to dry on a soft fabric surface. Avoid using a hairdryer or placing them on a radiator, as this can lead to overheating and damage to the internal components.

The MagSafe charging case for the second-generation AirPods Pro is protected against sweat and moisture, but it does not guarantee complete sweat- and waterproofing. The charging case for the first-generation AirPods Pro is neither water-resistant nor waterproof. If liquid has entered the case, do not connect it to the charger. Instead, let it dry for several hours. To do this, turn the case upside down and open the lid.

Does the warranty cover water damage to AirPods?

If the headphones are damaged due to water exposure, it is not considered a warranty case. It’s worth noting that Apple warns that the water resistance of AirPods Pro is not a permanent feature. It may diminish over time due to natural wear and tear, and it cannot be restored. Therefore, as your headphones age, it is important to handle them with extra care.
