A high-performance, lightweight notebook computer will benefit students of all backgrounds, even if your profession is far from computers and technology. After all, it is more convenient to write term papers and essays, surf the Internet, and watch movies on a big screen. And that’s not to mention the fact that telecommuting is becoming more popular every year.

Here’s why a Mac is the best choice for students and high school students.

Reliable and durable

The design of the MacBook enclosure is unibody, made from a single piece of aluminum. It’s lightweight and durable. And where plastic notebooks crack and break, a Mac will bend, chip or dent. And with heavy daily use, ‘injuries’ do happen to laptops. For example, from accidental bumps on a door frame, from being squashed by objects in a backpack, or from someone accidentally sitting on the device. A Mac is not immune to damage, but in such cases, aluminum is a better material than plastic.

That’s why you can take a MacBook up and down transit, run up and down floors, run into classrooms, and work on the go. Even after a year of heavy use, it looks like it came straight out of the shop.

Stays in value for a long time

After three to five years, a Mac retains about 20-35% of its original value. A PC falls short of 10% over the same period.

Apple has been releasing updates to macOS for 7-8 years. These include new features, bug fixes and security updates. The exceptions are the outdated PCs which are no longer distributed more than 5 or less than 7 years ago. For example, some Mac models from 2013 to 2016 are now considered to be obsolete. They will forever remain on macOS 12 Monterey – not too bad for “old timers”, isn’t it?

That’s why even older Apple computers are sold for a decent amount. Not so with Windows laptops: after a year of use, they lose a lot of value. After a few years it will be difficult to sell them: they look shabby and your customers are not sure of their quality and don’t want to discover hidden problems.

Connecting in an ecosystem with your other Apple devices

A Mac expands its capabilities even further when you use it with other Apple devices. The ecosystem brings them all together in a single organism – one where everything is connected and in sync. Copy a text, link, or photo to your iPhone and instantly paste it to your Mac. Use your iPad as a second display for your Mac. Or start reading a story in your browser on your Apple laptop, then turn it off and leave the house. And continue reading from the same place on your iPhone.

Music, photos, videos, files, passwords, calendars, contacts and other data are linked. Apple’s ecosystem is top-notch and makes everyday tasks much easier. So much so, in fact, that it’s rare for an Apple user to switch over to something else.

Built-in apps for most learning tasks

Unlike many competing computers, a Mac is ready to go right out of the box. It comes preloaded with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. And they’re not just software you put on the shelf. These applications have really cool functionality, and they don’t require you to buy a license to run them. There’s also a basic photo editor and iMovie for working with video.

What’s more: macOS is well thought out and therefore very handy. You can keep electronic notes in your notes and instantly add pictures and audio to them, for example, a snapshot of a whiteboard with formulas or charts. To do this, just press File > Paste from iPhone > Snapshot. Or insert audio from a lecture into your document. Your files will be accessible on all your devices, so you can view them even when your Mac isn’t around.

Another useful feature for studying is Spotlight. Search across all your documents, folders and emails. Want to see content from the previous academic year? Just type in the word or phrase you’re looking for and the computer will find all the files it appears in. If you do not want to take notes but may need them, take dictation. Activate this feature and enjoy how your Mac records your teacher’s speech, converting it into text.

Runs for up to 21 hours on a single charge

Besides being perfect for studying, a MacBook is also ideal because you don’t have to depend on electricity. And the new M1 and M2 chips are more energy efficient than Intel.

  • MacBook Air (M1 and M2) can last up to 18 hours of video playback and around 15 hours of browsing.
  • MacBook Pro M1 lasts up to 20 hours of video playback and 17 hours of web browsing.
  • The MacBook M1 Pro (14in) gets up to 17 hours on a single charge. That’s slightly less than the previous-generation Mac, but this kind of power requires more battery life.
  • The all-time leader in battery life is the MacBook Pro M1 Max (16-inch). It delivers a record-breaking 21 hours of battery life on a single charge.
  • And the MacBook Pro M2 gives you up to 20 hours of battery life for video playback – and around 17 hours of battery life for Wi-Fi web surfing.

As you can see, any Mac can go to work in the park, at the cottage, in transit, on a sun lounger by the pool, or anywhere else where there’s no power outlet. Any modern model will last you two full working days.

The best MacBook for studying: what makes the difference?

Every modern Mac is a complete working tool. It comes with a top-of-the-line Retina display with brilliant clarity and an expansive color gamut. It has an excellent battery life and a stable macOS. It has a quiet keyboard and trackpad with gesture support. And for distance learning and online calling, there’s a powerful speaker, microphone, and camera.

MacBook Air is perfect for those who need more than just an iPad, but don’t want a super-powerful MacBook Pro.

It’s the most ‘airy’ and lightest model in the lineup. Until 2022, the Air featured a traditional wedge-shaped design. The M2 models are now more square, in the style of the Pros. Both versions weigh less than 1.3 kg: easy to carry and carry all day. Ultrabooks fit into slim bags or backpacks and take up little space at your desk. It’s perfect for when you’re always on the move and need your notebook for lectures, web surfing, presentations, word processing and light graphics.

MacBook Pro: for the experts who get things done really seriously.

MacBook Air can do most of what a student should do. And MacBook Pro makes it even better. Even the simplest configuration in the Pro family is good for 3D graphics, 8K video editing, and other demanding tasks. And if Logic Pro, Lightroom, Vectorworks, DaVinci, or Final Cut Pro used to glitch, they’ll keep on flying with the MacBook Pro. It’s the perfect MacBook for the student, but only if you know how to make the most of it. After all, not everyone needs that kind of power.

iMac: For those who need a desktop with the performance to last for years to come.

The iMac is a desktop monoblock with a display, keyboard, and mouse. Thin and efficient, it’s ideal for a flat workspace. And with a 21-inch screen it’s easy to work on photos, videos, movies and games. That’s why it’s not just a great study computer – it’s also a fun center for the whole family.
