On 7 September, Apple held a presentation to unveil the highly anticipated new products. These included several Apple Watch models, the 2nd generation AirPods Pro and the iPhone 14 range. This now includes not only the Pro and Pro Max series, but also Plus instead of mini.
Let’s see which devices are coming to iSpace soon.
Apple Watch Series 8 with temperature sensor
The design and size of the watch is the same as Series 7. All the changes are inside. The new version features a temperature sensor that reads every 5 seconds. When paired with updated software, the movement will be able to alert women to impending ovulation.
The new accelerometer is now 4 times better at tracking position changes. This allows the watch to recognize car accidents involving the wearer. The Series 8 will call independently emergency services and relay its coordinates. Predictably, the feature will only be available in certain countries.
Battery life is unchanged: the watch runs for 18 hours in normal mode or 36 hours in power-saving mode. In addition, this mode has been upgraded to save battery life without compromising the device’s functionality.
The novelty is available in four colors: silver, gold, blue and red. Nike Watch and Hermès versions will also appear.
Apple Watch SE 2 with larger display and flagship chip
This is the most affordable device in the product range with a basic feature set and up-to-date hardware. The main visual difference is on the back. In the SE, the sensors are surrounded by hypoallergenic nylon and the cover is now available in different colors.
The SE gets the same chip as the Series 8 making it 20% faster. The display is up 30% larger for the same case size. To achieve this, Apple has reduced the bezel. There’s no Always On technology: you have to raise your hand to turn on the display. There is also no body temperature sensor, pulse oximeter and the Car Crash function, which automatically calls an ambulance.
Otherwise, SEs can do everything the older model can do. It recognizes falls, detects exercise, and monitors activity and tracks sleep phases. They can also be used for showering and diving, with WR50 water resistance.
Battery life is still the same 18 hours. But WatchOS 9 will be able to extend that time to 36 hours with a new power saving mode.
The Apple Watch SE is available in silver, gold and blue.
Apple Watch Ultra with additional button and record-breaking battery life
The premium model in the Apple Watch range: the watch looks completely different: the 49mm case is made of titanium and the glass is made of sapphire. The screen is no longer rounded; it is framed by a special bezel. The Digital Crown wheel is protected by a protrusion that prevents accidental presses. In addition, there is another customizable button, an additional speaker and microphones on the side.
The Apple Watch Ultra is perfect for professional athletes and ready for extreme conditions. It is ultra-rugged and can be submersed in depths of up to 100 meters. The sound of the horn built into the case can be heard up to 190 meters away. The new multi-band GPS ensures accurate navigation and positioning.
The brightness of the Apple Watch Ultra is up to 2,000 nits. That’s twice the brightness of any other Apple Watch. At the same time, it has a record-breaking 36 hours of battery life on a single charge. Power Saver extends that to 60 hours.
For the ultimate sports watch, Apple has created new straps. They’re designed specifically for different sports.
AirPods Pro 2 with improved noise cancellation and new swipes
The new generation of legendary headphones receives an H2 chip. It improves sound quality and energy efficiency. Noise cancellation mode now filters twice as much sound than the 2019 Pro models.
And that’s not all! Spacetime mode has gotten smarter: it automatically detects too noisy places and drowns out loud noises. That’s handy if you’re riding the underground or walking past a working jackhammer. And to make sure the ear cushions fit your ears perfectly XS ear cushions have been added to the size range.
Volume can now be adjusted by swiping on the side of the headphones. The headphones work for up to 6 hours on a single charge and up to 30 hours with occasional charging in the case. To help you find your case when you misplace it, a small speaker has been inserted. It alerts you when you search for the case in the Locator app.
Another nice new feature is that the AirPods 2 are compatible with the Apple Watch charger.
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus with upgraded camera and satellite connectivity
This year, Apple abandoned the mini-version and introduced a replacement, the iPhone 14 Plus.
The iPhone 14 is 6.1 inches and the iPhone 14 Plus is 6.7 inches. The A15 Bionic processor – the same as in last year’s iPhone 13 Pro – is responsible for performance. But thanks to an improved graphics chip, gaming performance has increased by 25%.
The camera module has been pumped up too, with the rear camera now capturing 49% more light and the front camera 38% more. The new 12-megapixel selfie camera is equipped with autofocus. Photos taken in low light are enhanced by the Photonic Engine neural network. And for video shooting, there’s a new Action Mode stabilization mode.
Like the Apple Watch Series 8, the smartphones have a car crash detection function. In the event of severe shocks, they will automatically call emergency services and give the owner’s coordinates.
Another new feature is support for satellite communications. In case of an emergency, the iPhone 14 will be able to use it for short messages or to transmit geo-positioning; but there are no specifics yet on how this will work outside the US and Canada.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are available in five colors: white, black, pink, beige and red.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max with a new cutout instead of fringes and an advanced camera
Headliners of the presentation: the smartphones have lost the usual ‘fringes’ and got a new Dynamic Island cutout. It masks the front camera and Face ID, and its presence is even played up at system level. For example, notifications, incoming calls and other elements will now be located at the top of the display, interacting with the ‘island’.
The size of the devices has not changed: 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The new A16 Bionic chip, the fastest central processing unit for mobile phones, is responsible for performance. The bezels around the display are even more inconspicuous and for the first time there is an Always On mode. The screen has a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The smartphone camera has also been seriously improved. The 48-megapixel sensor captures twice as much light. This makes it possible to shoot high-quality, high-resolution video. The ultra-wide-angle camera has also been tweaked. It now captures more detail in macro mode, even in dim light.
For recording videos in active motion, there’s Action Mode. A new Telephoto-2x feature allows you to zoom the picture. Cinema Effect mode supports shooting in 4K resolution.
The iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are available in four colors: dark purple, silver, gold and black.
